Akými premenami prechádza práca? Sú premeny práce na Slovensku niečím výnimočné či skôr kopírujú globálne trendy? A aká je práca žien? Poznáme mnoho štruktúrnych determinantov práce žien a mužov ľ horizontálnu rodovú segregáciu (segregáciu do povolaní považovaných za "mužské" a "ženské"), vertikálnu rodovú segregáciu (vzťah nepriamej úmernosti medzi počtom žien a úrovňou v hierarchii pracovných pozícií), dvojité zaťaženie žien (vykonávanie platenej aj väčšiny neplatenej práce ženami) a rodový mzdový rozdiel. (Por. EIGE, 2013; Súhrnná správa, 2014.) No dalo by sa o pracovnom živote žien a mužov hovoriť podobne zmysluplne, hoci inak? Práve tieto iné spôsoby vypovedania o práci ponúka predkladaná publikácia. Ich inakosť spočíva v predmete, metóde aj v spôsobe opisu či vysvetlenia. Ťažiskový ľ hoci nie výlučný ľ je tu dôraz na pracovnú etiku, etnografickú metódu výskumu a kapitalizmus ako logiku vysvetľovania aj pojem dožadujúci sa bližšieho vysvetlenia.
